TWO students were congratulated by Wycombe MP Steve Baker for their fund raising initiatives last week.

Mr Baker visited the Youth Enquiry Service, praising the work of the charity and the valuable contribution it makes to the lives of High Wycombe youth.

He was especially pleased with the efforts of Bucks New University students Victoria Downie and Belinda Sams.

The pair organised a dating event styled in the fashion of television program Take Me Out for students on February 9 and are in the process of arranging a disco.

Mr Baker said: “I was delighted to visit YES today to learn how the team are helping young people to build more positive relationships and a better future.

“I wish Victoria and Belinda every success in their project with YES in relation to their Business Management Course at Bucks New University.

“I would like to extend congratulations to all the staff at YES, especially the volunteers, who give their time so generously in this vital cause.”

YES Manager Lisa Miller was delighted Mr Baker took time out from his busy schedule to visit the agency to see how the project worked on the ground.

She said: “It was very encouraging to have the local MP visit the project which we believe provides an excellent model for David Cameron’s idea of the “big society”. We are a local charity which is staffed by local volunteers to provide an essential service for local young people. What we really need now is a partnership with local businesses to make the ‘big society a reality at local level’.’’ YES provided a place for young people aged between 13 to 25 to drop in and get advice on accommodation, drugs and alcohol, sexual health and one on one counselling by appointment.
