The Information Commissioner has upheld a complaint after a freedom of information request made in November 2009 was refused by WDC.

Read the Information Commission report under related articles below.

Disclosing the information was in the public interest, the commissioner has ruled.

WDC released some of the withheld information during an initial investigation by the commission, but continued refusing to release whole or partial documents.

Now, WDC has been given 35 days to release the remaining information.

In December 2009 the complainant requested WDC carry out an internal review.

This was completed in January 2010 and confirmed that it upheld its application of regulations.

WDC has released this statement:

"Every year we receive hundreds of requests for information under the Freedom of Information Act about a very broad range of issues and service s.

"In the vast majority of cases, we are able to release the information that is being requested from us in full.

"With regards to the Information Commissioner’s decision on a complaint about a requestfor information made under the Freedom of Information Act, we are currently reviewing the decision as we believe it pertains to confidential and commercially sensitive information."

The Information Commissioner’s Office is the UK’s independent authority set up to uphold information rights in the public interest, promoting openness by public bodies and data privacy for individuals.
