JUST in case you thought I’d forgotten, here’s proof that I have sent your views over our ridiculous council system to the people who matter.

Readers may recall that Backchat ran a campaign last year to axe our Bucks councils and amalgamate them into a new easier-to-understand and cheaper system.

Around 50 people posted forms to me backing my battle.

Although councillors will no doubt scoff at how ‘small’ the response was, I was genuinely chuffed by it. In this day and age, it takes an awful lot for people to cut out a form in the paper and go to the trouble and expense of filling it out and posting it. Especially on such a complex issue as council reform. The fact that four dozen or so people bothered does show there is a true depth of feeling out there.

Last week, reporter Rebecca Cain handed the forms to Cllr Gary Hall, an independent district and town councillor for Risborough. Gary has been one of the leading lights in backing the call for council reform, and was happy to pass your forms on.

As one cynic once said, however, asking councillors to scrap themselves is like asking turkeys to vote for Christmas.

So don’t hold your breath – just keep on fighting and ruffling those turkey feathers.
