ANTI-STADIUM campaigners GASP asked all council election candidates to declare their position.

Only one Conservative had replied to the request - Cllr Wendy Mallen.

Now, Wycombe Conservatives have released the following statement on its website outlining the view of the party's candidates.

“The officers at Wycombe District Council are going through an evaluation process which has a long way to go.

"Many people have stated their position without all the facts to hand, as these have not been ascertained as yet and will not be for some considerable time.

"Objections have been made to various aspects of the project which, at this stage, are pure speculation as no business plan or planning application has been received by the Council.

"Without these details, it is impossible to determine whether one is in support or opposed to the proposal.

"Until such time as further information is made available by the developer I am neither for or against this idea and will not prejudice any vote I may have on the outcome by stating a preference before all the facts are known.

"This should be the case for all councillors who may have to vote on a planning application.

"Any candidate, who gets elected, who has already determined their view on this project is likely to be unable to take part in any future planning decisions as they may well have prejudiced their positions.

"No decisions have yet been made to build a stadium and the Conservative Party position as stated in their manifesto is: "We will continue to explore the community, sporting and leisure improvements together with the economic benefits that a Sports Village and Stadium will bring to everyone.

"In doing this we will remain mindful of the significant issues and the ‘very special circumstances’ that are present with any development within the Green Belt whilst continuing to consult and seek the views of all our residents."
