'SLOW down' signs are set to be installed on three roads in Beaconsfield next month in a bid to tackle speeding.

The vehicle activated signs for Burkes Road, Gregories Road and Sandleswood End have been long-awaited by residents and safety campaigners.

The signs, which are part of a £25,000 project by Buckinghamshire County Council, will light up and say 'slow down' to drivers exceeding the 30mph limit.

The council has also agreed to spend £45,000 to construct a bus bay and a pedestrian refuge on the A40 through Holtspur, near the junction with Broad Lane. The money has been allocated from this year's budget, but it is not yet known when the work will start.

A controversial move to cut the 50mph speed limit on the A40 through Holtspur to 40 mph has been delayed for two years due to budget cuts.

The new speed limit signs between the junction of Wooburn Green Lane to the existing 30mph limit at Beaconsfield were due to be installed in March last year, at a cost of between £6,000 and £10,000.

The speed limit is now set to change in March next year.
