Sir David Jason visits RAF High Wycombe
TV STAR Sir David Jason visited RAF High Wycombe to formally open the Station’s new welfare facility on Friday.
It has been named the Oakeshott Centre after Wing Commander Alan Oakeshott, who was awarded the Distinguished Flying Cross and is credited with suggesting the Naphill site for Bomber Command Headquarters.
He died in a raid over Germany in 1942 and is commemorated on the Naphill War Memorial.
The Oakeshott centre can host formal Station ceremonies such as medal presentations, a coffee shop and classrooms.
Sir David said: “The Centre will be a tremendous boost for the community and I am especially pleased that the youngsters of serving personnel today and in the future will benefit from the facilities there.”
