WYCOMBE Wanderers Supporters Trust gives its view on the controversial proposal for a stadium and sports village at Booker.

SEVERAL of the Trust Directors attended the WSDL briefing at Adams Park on Tuesday June 28 when Steve Hayes, Mike Brooks, Howard Kennedy and Gareth Cornwall unveiled plans for the rebranded Sporting Village project.

It must be said at the outset that the Trust’s position remains consistent and unchanged. Whilst retaining an open mind in respect of the proposals, the Trust’s sole objective is to ensure the long term financial security of Wycombe Wanderers, nothing more, nothing less. In this light, whilst the presentation gave an overview of the proposals, it was lacking in any substantive financial information that supported the guarantee of a viable, secure future for Wycombe Wanderers.

Without credible, independently validated financial data and clearly stated and verified assumptions, the Trust‘s position of not yet being able to support the proposals for the Sporting Village is unchanged. It is hoped, that, with WSDL scheduling further meetings in the near future, such information will be forthcoming, at which time the Trust will be in a position to take an informed view.

Under existing arrangements, Wycombe Wanderers owns Adams Park and has Wasps as a tenant. Under the proposed scheme, Wycombe Wanderers will neither own an asset nor have a tenant. For the Trust to support the project, not only must the financials and the assumptions behind them be valid but, also, Wycombe Wanderers must be at the forefront of such a project, with benefits accruing directly to our club. The Trust can only support a project that ensures a profitable operating business with Wycombe Wanderers as the main beneficiary.
