SCHOOLS across south Bucks celebrated more record exam results this week as pupils learned their GCSE grades.

Robert Preston, head of the Misbourne School in Great Missenden, had special reason to be pleased after an Ofsted report put it in special measures earlier this year.

This year 61 per cent of pupils got A*-C including English and maths, a seven per cent rise from last year.

Mr Preston, appointed after the report came out, said: “I’m absolutely over the moon - it’s a really good improvement by the school.

"I’m so proud of my students and my staff.

“It’s a real morale boost - it shows the school is moving beyond the national average.”

At Wycombe’s John Hampden Grammar School 58 per cent of pupils achieved A* or A grade’s.Deputy Headteacher Andy Wright said: “Record results for the school, very pleased and very well deserved.

"We believed these boys were a very good year and they have proved it with the results they’ve achieved.”

Cressex Community School headteacher David Hood said he was “very pleased” after more than 50 per cent of pupils gain five A*-to-C grades.

One of the main success stories was Russian-born Tamara Paula, who passed every exam on the way to securing straight A-Cs.She has only been studying in the English school system for five years.

She said: “I did great, I didn’t speak a word of English when I first arrived and the teachers have been really good and made it easier for me.

At Highcrest Academy 88 per cent of students achieved A* to C grades, setting a new record, with 48 per cent of pupils getting A* to C grades including English and maths.

A statement from the school said: “The progress made by Highcrest students who five years ago were told they had “failed” their 11+ examination is truly remarkable.” It went on to thank pupils and staff.At Dr Challoner’s Grammar School in Amersham 100 per cent of the 183-strong year group achieved at least five A*- C grades including English and maths. Of all the grades awarded to the school, 80 per cent were A*s or As.

Dr Mark Fenton, headteacher, said: “After all the bad press which Britain’s young people have received this summer, t is great to be able to pay tribute to the extremely positive story of the vast majority.”

At Wycombe High School 73 per cent of all GCSE results were graded A/ A* with all students achieving A* to C grades including English and maths.Chloe Allen shed tears of joy after ripping open her envelope to discover eight As and four A*s to ensure A level studies at the school next year.

The Hazlemere pupil said: “I’m so happy, it is better than I expected and I’m just over the moon.

“It only really hit me yesterday that exam results were coming and the summer was towards the end, but I’m really proud of myself.”

Princes Risborough School improved its overall 5A*-C grades by another three per cent on last year’s results, meaning that for the seventh year running it has achieved best ever results at GCSE.
