IN response to your article of Friday, January 13 2012 – “Walkers fight bikers”, re the proposed byway at Kimble and Ellesborough – it may be useful for your readers to know that the proposed 30 foot wide byway which would cross the Ridgeway long distance footpath in a narrow gully would be for four wheel drive vehicles and quad bikes as well as motor-bikes.
As the route does not exist on the ground for 700 metres this would involve felling about 90 mature trees.
The six-figure sum to pay for this would come from council tax.
