A TREE and a hedge at the Marlow Town Cemetery were set on fire this morning, according to police.

A resident spotted the blaze and called the fire brigade at about 8am.

Firefighters managed to stop the fire from spreading to other parts of the Wethered Road cemetery.

The tree and hedge sustained minor damage but no-one was injured in the fire, which police believe was a “deliberate act of arson”.

PC Chris Carr, investigating the incident, said: “We believe this was a deliberate act of arson and I am keen to speak to anyone who may have been in the area and witnessed any suspicious activity.”

Anyone with any information should contact the 24-hour Police Enquiry Centre on 101.

If you don't want to speak directly to the police you can contact the independent charity Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
