I REALLY cannot let The Reverend Peter Simpson get away with peddling his peculiar brand of nonsense three weeks running!

In a letter on 16th March, he wrote “Christianity is true and Christ’s resurrection is the evidence.” This is a glorious piece of circular logic, claiming that the existence of one thing for which there is no proof (Christ’s resurrection) is evidence for another thing (Christianity) being true.

But it’s the Reverend Simpson’s obsession with gay marriage that has me puzzled. On March 30, he claimed this would “ride roughshod over God’s laws” and he was quoted on March 23 as saying that “the Bible teaches us in many places that it is sinful to be homosexual...”

Now, as you may guess, I am a life-long atheist so I am not as familiar as the Reverend Simpson with the Bible, so could he please identify for me the ‘many’ places where homosexuality is condemned? I think we must exclude the Old Testament from this challenge as one can find authority for pretty much anything in there (the book of Leviticus being a particularly fruitful source in this respect).

More relevant would be direct pronouncements from Jesus himself, reported in the New Testament.

And I don’t see, by the way, why I should be at all ‘respectful’ of someone with such intolerant views as the Reverend Simpson appears to be proving himself.
