VILLAGERS have expressed their anger as a bus service for Bourne End and Wooburn Green is set to be axed today.

Nearly 20 people attended a meeting in Wooburn Green on Wednesday to discuss how they can protest against the axing of the number 1 Carousel bus - which links the villages to High Wycombe.

About 80 people have already signed a petition to submit to the Go-Ahead Group, which recently bought the Carousel bus firm.

There will still be an Arriva bus service on the route, but Wooburn Green resident Rachael Horwitz, who is a member of Bucks Save Our Services, said: "This decision will affect many residents, especially elderly people.

"Currently the number 1 bus generally arrives ten to 20 minutes after the 37 [Arriva] bus and when it is scrapped people will have to wait half an hour or more between each service.

"The service is well used and its loss will have a very negative impact on the local economy."

She said a further meeting would be organised, to which the Go-Ahead Group would be invited.

Carousel, which is also withdrawing its 2A/C services to Lane End and Stokenchurch, said: "We regret the need to do this but unfortunately not enough people have used these services and they are running at a considerable loss."
