A PLEDGE of support to our armed forces was made this week by councillors and representatives of the private sector.

Wycombe District Council hosted the signing of the Armed Forces Community Covenant, welcoming members of Hughenden, Bradenham and Lacey Green Parish Councils.

Also attending were Group Captain Mark Heffron, Station Commander from RAF High Wycombe and Paul Nangle, regional director of Parkwood Leisure.

A Community Covenant is a voluntary statement, signed in order to pledge mutual support to the local armed forces by the civilian community.

Cllr Ian McEnnis, Chairman of Wycombe District Council said: “Wycombe has always been proud of its association with the RAF and our residents are deeply grateful to our Servicemen and Women for their commitment, service and sacrifice for our country.

“Without them, the freedom and liberty we take for granted would not be there.

“I n signing this new covenant we affirm our support for all the men and women who make up the Royal Air Force community; from currently serving troops to Service families and from veterans to cadets.”

The signing ceremony took place on Monday at the Council Chamber.
