CHILTERN Railways have apologised after passengers hoping to reach London over the Jubilee weekend were left stranded at stations.

Dozens of patriotic people hoping to celebrate The Queen’s Diamond Jubilee in the Capital were left disappointed by trains running between Birmingham Moor Street and London Marylebone.

Chiltern trains were leaving the Midlands city full meaning people waiting at stations further south, including Princes Risborough, High Wycombe, Beaconsfield and Gerrards Cross were unable to board.

Despite the railway company adding 24,000 extra seats over the weekend and running a more frequent service, trains were still filled with passengers making their way to London, with Sunday and Tuesday being the busiest days.

The rail company apologised to passengers in Bucks but said all available trains were working to get people to and from London.

Transport services treated the Jubilee celebrations as a dry run for this summer’s Olympic and Paralympic games but following the weekends chaos, concerns have been raised about whether Chiltern Railways will cope come July.

Chad Collins, Chiltern Railways’ General Manager South said: “We have been planning for the London Games 2012 for some time and our most recent May timetable booklet shows the late night services we are putting on.

“In addition, we have also made plans to make our off peak service longer for the period of the Games.

“Unlike the Jubilee pageant which was a one off event condensed into a few hours, the Olympics and Paralympics are spread across several weeks and information and intelligence about attendances are more readily available to enable us to plan our timetable to meet of those travelling to the Capital for the events.”
