CONCERNS have been raised about the future of Princes Risborough train station after Chiltern Railways cut a key commuter service in the morning.

The train company's new May timetable cancelled the 7.46am direct service from Princes Risborough to London.

Commuters have said there is now a 30 minute gap during peak time, 7.28am and 7.58am ,where there is no direct service from the market town to London.

The 7.37am requires passengers to change at High Wycombe.

The non stop 6.56pm train to Princes Risborough has been cancelled but combined with the 6.53pm train to leave at 6.54pm to get in at 7.43pm.

Nick Haydon, of Poppy Road, who works as a university lecturer in London, said: "They are losing non stop services in each direction on their daily commute. It is just going to make the day a lot longer."

He said out of the main stations coming out of Wycombe Princes Risborough seems to have got the worst deal.

He added: "Out of that batch of stations it is the only one that is scheduled to lose its non stop services."

Mr Haydon, 57, said the changes come after the company promised faster trains. He said commuters worry what the company plan for the future of the station.

He added: "It seems as if they are improving every one else's services and Princes Risborough comes further down the pecking order."

A consultation is currently running on the company's plans for the December 2012 timetable, and commuters hope Chiltern will take note of the consultation responses.

Richard Harper, head of network development at Chiltern Railways said: "We are currently running a consultation on our plans for the December Timetable 2012. The timetable seeks to give passengers the thing they ask us for most - a regular interval timetable throughout the day. "At peak times, where the most significant changes occur, this new timetable is intended to: reduce gaps and intervals, offer a memorable pattern of service, increase the number of seats available, with over 700 additional seats provided in the morning peak period and enable further improvements in punctuality.

"We remain committed to Princes Risborough and have recently provided an extra 50 spaces for customers to park. The new timetable proposes a new fast peak service starting from Princes Risborough at 7.44am and arriving at Marylebone at 8.25am. If you have feedback on the proposal, please contact us before the June 15 by emailing timetableconsultation@chilternrailways.co.uk or writing to: Timetable Consultation, Chiltern Railways, Banbury ICC, Merton Street, Banbury, OX16 4RN."
