A SUPERMARKET firm has been granted a licence that will pave the way for them to open a store in Prestwood.
Sainsbury's has been granted a premises licence, which will enable them to trade in the village.
The company has been looking to open one of its 'Local' convenience stores at a vacant retail unit in Wycombe Road.
Chiltern District Council has now agreed to give Sainsbury's a licence, which will allow them to sell goods including alcohol from the store from 7am-10pm.
The move has been met with opposition from villagers, who fear the impact the new store will have existing facilities in Prestwood.
They have particular worries over the future of the Post Office and have also voiced concerns at the lack of car parking places outside the store.
Feedback that Sainsbury's received during a consultation with residents indicated that opinion amongst villagers over the plans was divided.
The company has agreed to cease trading at 10pm, which is earlier than Sainsbury's usual closing time of 11pm, on the back of the consultation.
Meanwhile Chiltern District Council will consider further alterations Sainsbury's wish to make to the building.
The firm has submitted three applications for three different changes, which will all be considered separately.
They are for an air conditioning unit, the installation of a cash machine and for illuminated signs on the front and side of the store. Decisions on the three applications will be made by the council next Thursday, July 12.
