Motorcyclist death: Police appeal to motorists who may have driven past brick

A SENIOR policeman is pleading for any motorist that drove past the concrete block which caused the death of a motorcyclist to come forward.

Chief Inspector Colin Seaton fears key witnesses could be too ashamed to get in touch with police after a man hit a large brick deliberately placed in the middle of Daws Hill Lane and died at about 6.30am on Sunday.

He is urging anyone who travelled along the road between midnight and 6.30am to contact officers so they can narrow down the timeframe in which the “disgraceful act” was committed.

The deputy area commander said: “There could have been several people that have driven down that road on Sunday morning.

“Maybe they are too embarrassed, given what has happened, that they have driven past it and not moved it or reported it to police.

“No-one is going to be chastised for that but we need to find out who did this. The public’s information could help us establish when that block was put in the middle of the road.”

The 52-year-old High Wycombe rider came off his blue Honda CBR bike after hitting the foot-long block near the former RAF Daws Hill base.

He was pronounced dead at the scene.

Insp Paul Wilkes told the BFP yesterday that the brick had been embedded in the verge but it was deliberately carried and placed in to the road.

Ch Insp Seaton said: “It’s horrific; whether they’ve purposely put it in the road to cause an accident or they’ve done it for some other reason, I just can’t explain why anyone would do such a thing.

“What a needless waste of life; it’s an awful, disgraceful act. I feel so desperately sorry and sad for the family.

"If anyone has any information, please come forward so we can bring the people responsible to justice.”
