CILLA Black gave Eileen King a 'Surprise Surprise' at a Scannappeal volunteers party when the star gave her the brooch she was wearing as a gift.

The TV host who is Scannappeal's principal patron attended a special party for the charity’s volunteers to mark the 25th anniversary at the chairman’s house in The Lee last week.

William Baxter, the charity’s chairman, invited Cilla to cut the large anniversary cake, helped by Eileen King, 88, from Chesham and Lucy Clark, 16, from Amersham.

Eileen admired Cilla's jewelled tortoise brooch.

The TV star immediately took it off and gave it to Eileen to keep, who wore it for the rest of the afternoon and said: "It was such a lovely gesture which was completely unexpected."

Cilla met 80 volunteers and heard about the different ways they give their time in the office, bookshops and at events.

She said: "I was amazed to learn that collectively you give over 20,000 hours each year to help Scannappeal. From the bottom of my heart, thank you for everything that you do which helps make a real difference for local patients."
