Residents were left “worried” and “shocked” after two houses were cordoned off by police in Terriers today, following an alleged attack on a woman.

Officers were called to Wellesbourne Gardens, near Kingshill Road, at about 12.30pm and have since said a female was taken to hospital with injuries which are not thought to be life-threatening.

Specific details of the incident could not yet be confirmed by Thames Valley Police, but people from the area said there was a large police presence in the neighbourhood this afternoon while an air ambulance also landed in a nearby field.

Marcia Duthie, of Wellesbourne Gardens, said: “I had only just got back home and all of a sudden there was a whole load of police cars and ambulances outside, which obviously worried me.

"I asked the police what had happened and they said there had been an incident and I should go inside my house.

“So I did, but only for about 30 seconds, and when I went out and all my neighbours were out too trying to find out what happened.”

Another resident of Wellesbourne Gardens, Dawn Atkinson, said: “I have been here for about four years and we have never had any problems, it has always been quite quiet.

“It’s all such a shock, there was a lot of police here and I think everyone was concerned when we saw the air ambulance.”

Officers are still at the two cordoned off properties, while forensic teams were at the scene at about 2pm.

Police have arrested a man in connection with the incident.
