A 101-year-old disabled woman was left distressed after receiving a parking ticket in Beaconsfield while attending her birthday lunch.

Rhoda Payne from Seer Green was taken for a day out by her niece Christine Jefferson last month to celebrate her milestone birthday when they received the parking notice for stopping on a double yellow line.

After writing to Transport for Bucks to contest the ticket, they were told it would not be waived because the parking clock was not displayed alongside the ‘blue badge’ disabled permit.

Mrs Jefferson, who is from from Weybridge, now intends to fight the matter in court and feels angry at the lack of sympathy shown over the fine.

She said: “It seems so unfair. I genuinely didn’t know where I could and couldn’t park.

“My aunt is over a hundred and her memory isn’t what it was, so she must have forgotten the parking clock to go with her blue badge.

“Her son was visiting from Germany and was with us, and neither of us even knew about the extra part of the badge.”

Ms Payne, who was born five days before the Titanic sank in 1912, was taken out for a treat to Smiles Fish and Chip shop in Beaconsfield.

Mrs Jefferson said a similar incident happened to one of her neighbours, who had the ticket waived by Elmbridge Council in Surrey and argues the same should be done for her aunt.

Transport for Bucks maintained the ticket would stand after the group’s failure to display the obligatory parking clock.

A case officer also confirmed that parking was only permitted in the area for loading and unloading purposes, none of which was witnessed by the officer issuing the ticket.

Mrs Jefferson now intends to formally appeal the £35 ticket and warns others drivers with disabled relatives to be careful when displaying exemption badges.
