Tragedy as girl, 6, is killed by collapsing mantelpiece
4:30pm Friday 20th July 2012 in Beaconsfield By Lawrence Dunhill
A SIX-YEAR-OLD girl has died from head injuries after a mantelpiece collapsed at her home address in Beaconsfield.
Police continue to investigate the circumstances behind the death of young Bella Pritchard, but said the incident is not being treated as suspicious.
Ambulance crews were called to a property in Burkes Road on the afternoon of Saturday, July 7, and the youngster was rushed to Wexham Park Hospital. She was later pronounced dead and an inquest was opened on July 12.
The BFP understands Bella was a pupil at Maltman’s Green School, an independent girls’ school in Gerrards Cross.
Det Insp Sharon Hill, from Amersham CID, said: “This is a tragic incident and our thoughts are with Bella’s family who have been receiving specialist support from a family liaison officer.
“We continue to investigate the circumstances of her death and are working with our partners at Buckinghamshire County Council and Trading Standards.”
Police confirmed details of the tragedy to the Bucks Free Press today and have specifically requested the family’s privacy be respected.
A Catholic church in Abergavenny in Wales has posted a message online asking parishioners to pray for Bella.
The website of Our Lady and Saint Michael’s Roman Catholic Church says: “Please pray for the soul of a little girl, Isabella Pritchard, who died in a tragic accident last weekend in Beaconsfield.
“Her grandparents and family live in OLSM parish. May Our Lady of Sorrows be especially close to them at this time.”
