A MULTI-million pound revamp of Amersham and Wycombe College's Stanley Hill site is on the cards in a bid to keep Bucks students at the cutting edge of education.

The college had revealed plans in December to relocate to a new site, a library and community area, at Chiltern Avenue, Amersham, but it has now decided to stay put.

The proposal is in its early stages and new designs for the site still have to be drawn up. The college says is could cost upwards of £2million.

John Eaton, college principal, said: "We have a clear ambition to achieve and maintain a ranking within the top ten per cent of colleges in the country. In future we want to ensure that we operate in purpose-designed buildings, and the redevelopment of the Stanley Hill site provides us with the scope to shape our future."

Neil Matthews, marketing manager, added: "Amersham college opened in 1972 and has a real educational heritage in the area. It's original facilities were excellent, but they are no longer ideal for the needs of the 21st century.

"We plan to talk to local stakeholders and anyone else with an interest in the college and in Amersham. We want to find out how a new building will best suit their needs."
