QUEUES of Pakistanis are expected at Green Street Youth and Community Centre on Sunday to get their hands on an overseas national identity card.

The Pakistan government has introduced the identity cards to help citizens living abroad visit family and friends back home.

Until now, people from Pakistan living in Britain needed to get a visa from the High Commission in London if they did not already hold a Pakistan passport. These visas were only valid for one visit back to Pakistan and cost £40.

On Sunday, between 10am and 4pm, people can get hold of one of the new identity cards, which are valid for ten years and cost between £10 and £15.

The identity cards will be accepted when going abroad as long as the carrier can prove they are of Pakistani origin.

Cllr Rikki Hussein, Wycombe District councillor for Sands, is expecting lots of people to take up the offer.

He said: "This will make it much easier for people and takes out the hassle of going into London and spending all day at the Pakistan High Commission waiting to get a visa. The Government is trying to push through identity cards in the face of terror so the Pakistan government is one step ahead."
