A MAN who plunged to his death from the QE2 bridge in Dartford last week has been named as Rajinder Sahota.

Police spent four hours in contact with the 42-year-old before he fell into the river Thames at around 3pm on March 10.

An inquest into the death of Mr Sahota, who is from Leicester but is understood to have links with the Gerrards Cross area, has been opened and adjourned by the coroner.

Essex police confirmed he pulled up in his car on lane one and climbed over safety barriers.

After lengthy negotiation with police, Mr Sahota walked to the apex of the bridge before falling into the river.

A lifeboat took him to a waiting ambulance but he was pronounced dead at Darent Valley Hospital.

The M25 crossing was closed for seven hours causing lengthy delays, with queuing traffic diverted through the northbound tunnel until the bridge reopened at around 6pm.

The north west Kent coroner’s office has confirmed Mr Sahota to be from Leicester, but Essex Police said at the time he was from Gerrards Cross.
