CYSTIC Fibrosis is taking a beating after one inspiring mother from Gerrards Cross organised an event to raise money for the Cystic Fibrosis Trust.
Gemma Cochrane, 34, whose daughter Millie has the condition, organised a variety of sporting challenges in Penn Street Village, including a 5k run and fancy dress fun run in aid of the charity – for those that didn’t want to take part in the sport there was plenty on the menu, with a cake competition, barbeque and live music.
Cystic Fibrosis, a life-shortening disease, affects the internal organ, especially the lungs, which is one reason Gemma took to a sporty theme for her fundraiser.
She said: “I thought it would be appropriate to create a fundraiser focusing on exercise, especially given that it is so important for people with cystic fibrosis to remain disciplined to do their exercises and keep fit.”
With an anonymous donor having offered to match the amount raised, the onus was on to raise as much money as possible.
Gemma said: “When we were given Millie’s diagnosis, she was less than a month old, we had to come to terms with the relentless daily treatments required just to maintain her health.
“We had nowhere else to turn and the Trust was a great support.”
