MARTIN Tett is set to continue at the man at the helm of the county, following Thursday's council elections.

Cllr Tett, who has been spearheading the fight against High Speed 2, has won the nomination for leader from the Conservative group after a party meeting.

The Conservatives won 36 out of 49 seats, ensuring they retain the majority at County Hall, and meaning Cllr Tett will get the nod to continue as Bucks County Council Leader.

Cllr Tett said the Conservative group meeting was private and could not discuss details but added it was an upbeat gathering.

His leadership should be rubber stamped at the council's upcoming AGM.

He took over from Cllr David Shakespeare as BCC leader in May 2011, as Tories called for a more aggressive approach to the fight against HS2.

Since taking charge, Cllr Tett has also become the leader of the 51m alliance – a group of councils up and down the proposed £33bn rail line.
