THE Marlow Free Press has been credited with a victory after a pothole ridden road was suddenly repaired.

The newspaper reported two weeks ago on the problems in Spinfield Lane, Marlow, after resident John Laker complained of the 'horrendous' series of street craters.

He said it endangered him and other cyclists.

Transfort for Buckinghamshire said at the time that Spinfield Lane was not on its agreed hit list for pothole busting.

But two days after the paper came out, Mr Laker has reported, the road was repaired.

The ex-Parliamentary candidate for the Green Party, said: "The potholes were done a couple of days later. I greatly appreciate that the power of the press has turned our street into a level playing field.

"It's a minor miracle, I was absolutely gobsmacked, I couldn't believe it especially after what the council said. It's much easier to cycle and drive down now and it's totally down to the MFP. I can't imagine they would've done it otherwise."

He added he must thank Bucks County Council for responding to his comments.

The council has recently pledged to spend another £25m repairing roads over the next two years, having already invested £30m over the previous three years.
