A BAA-RMY sight will greet Londoners next week as Marlow’s mayor takes her turn to herd sheep over London Bridge.

Suzanne Brown is exercising her right to guide the woolly wanderers over the River Thames after she was named a Freeman of the City of London earlier this year.

A devoted charity fundraiser, Mayor Brown is using the stunt - with help from the Worshipful Company of Woolmen - to generate funds towards her nominated mayoral charities.

Along with a coachload of supporters, the Mayor will carry out the medieval privilege on October 5 with other Freeman on a dedicated day when traffic will be diverted from the spot.

She said: "I’m excited, but also quite apprehensive, my experience is non-existent. I hope I don’t have to control the sheep. I’m sure it will be fine, they should provide a shepherd.

"I think there will be around ten sheep, and fancy dress is allowed but I haven’t decided on that yet.

"So far I have around 20 people coming, but I’d like other people to come along too to help me raise money for my charities."

Mayor Brown’s trip will also include a boat trip from Westminster.

The right to drive sheep across London Bridge was originally granted in the 12th century to bring livestock into the City for sale.

The honorary privilege was bestowed after Mayor Brown was nominated for the freedom of the city for her tireless charity work.

The nominated charities set to benefit are the Marlow Opportunity Playgroup and Thames Valley and Chiltern Air Ambulance.
