PUPILS played at police work last week after emergency services visited a Marlow school to pass on some words of wisdom.

Firefighters and police officers taught youngsters about staying safe and preventing accidents during Marlow C of E Infant School’s health and safety day on Thursday.

As well as tips and advice from emergency crews, pupils were taught how to become health and safety monitors and take responsibility for their own environment during the school day.

Coordinator Emma Howarth said: "It is a great way to make them aware of their own safety in school and how to stay safe outside school.

"The children really enjoyed having the visitors and doing something a bit different. They’re being all very grown up about it and are now doing daily checks around school."

Mrs Howarth said hopping aboard a fire engine was a particular highlight during the daylong activities session.

Police also passed on important lessons such as road safety and the dangers of talking to strangers.
