Teenage moped riders are among those being targeted for a campaign to improve safety for motorists on two wheels.

A new course being piloted by Buckinghamshire Fire and Rescue looks to give riders - especially the young - extra skills to help keep them safe and make the most of their time on the road.

Organisers of the scheme, which takes place at Marlow Fire Station in May, hope it will encourage younger riders who may not have taken their full bike test to continue riding in future years.

Keith Wheeler, road safety officer for Bucks Fire anmd , said: "I hope that this course will particularly appeal to younger riders of scooters and mopeds.
"Many young people buy a small bike to go to school or college and never go on to take their motorcycle test.

"Riders used to be able to continue riding by retaking their one-day Compulsory Basic Training and, though the Government has closed that loophole, many riders will switch to cars when they can afford to.

"We hope to show them how to make the most of their bike and maybe continue to enjoy two wheels beyond their teenage years."

The pilot courses will be held on Saturday, May 2 at Marlow Fire Station on Parkway.

Each session will include input on safe riding techniques as well as slow riding and machine control, bike maintenance and protective clothing.
