A soldier from Marlow who died 100 years ago this week after fighting in World War One is the latest to be honoured as part of a town-wide project.

Remembrance group Marlow Remembers World War One held a special Easter vigil in memory of Leonard Roberts, who died on April 5, 1915.

Private Roberts served in the Princess Charlotte of Wales's (Royal Berkshire) Regiment, Regimental Depot and travelled to France to fight on November 6, 1914.

But he five months later at his home in Marlow April 5, 1915, but the circumstances of his death are not known.

He lived at Harleyford with his parents and four siblings, where he was employed as a carter. His brother Albert George Roberts also died during the war.

One of the early casualties of WWI, he is buried in the Marlow Cemetery, Wethered Road, where the group held the short ceremony.

In total, 220 soldiers from Marlow will receive a poppy planted at the town’s Causeway memorial on the anniversary of their deaths.
