A MARLOW lady has been honoured with a medal for her time in the land army, which was presented to her by TV personality Dani Behr.

Edith Budd, 83, was given the Women's Land Army Medal to commemorate her time as a Land Army girl in Marlow during 1946-1948.

She came to Buckinghamshire from Newcastle aged 17, and has since lived in the area all her life.

Sadly, she was diagnosed with dementia in 2001 and has been at the Kingfishers Care Home in Bourne End for the last seven years.

Along with her husband, Albert, who is 86 on Wednesday, daughter, Gloria and son, Paul, Dani Behr went to the care home to present Mrs Budd with the medal.

Gloria, 60, who lives in Beaconsfield, said of the medal presentation: "It was very important to honour her. She has been a wonderful mum and wife to my dad.

"I hope at some level she knew what was happening, and I believe she did."

Mrs Budd met Marlow resident Albert during her time in the Land Army and they have been married for 63 years.

Gloria said: "My dad is utterly devoted to her. He visits every single day. My brother and I are there every evening."

And she said on the day Dani gave her mum the medal Mrs Budd seemed "so calm" and really focused on the TV presenter. Gloria is good friends with Dani through her job as a performance coach in sports and business.

They met when Dani was dating Les Ferdinand, and Gloria was his sports massage therapist.

They have remained good friends since and although Dani now lives in Australia she visits Gloria when she comes back to the UK for a holiday.

Gloria added: "It is really quite funny. A while ago I took my dad to the Hand and Flowers in Marlow for a treat.

"He said, 'Goodness me, this has changed. This is where I used to do all my courting with your mum.'"
