Puppy love is in the air this Valentine’s Day as two Wycombe Wanderers players urged dog-lovers to sponsor a hearing puppy.

Romantic souls can sponsor a puppy at Hearing Dogs for Deaf People for Valentine’s Day and first in line to sign up were Wycombe Wanderers stars Sam Wood and Steven Craig.

The footballers sponsored an eight week old Cocker Spaniel puppy called Rose while visiting the Hearing Dogs for Deaf People training centre to learn about the work that the charity does.

Wanderers midfielder and dog lover, Sam Wood said: “It means a lot to me to be sponsoring Rose and to volunteer at Hearing Dog For Deaf People in my spare time. I first found out about the charity when I sat next to one of the puppies on a train and was amazed by how intelligent, obedient and supportive they are to deaf people who need their help.

“It prompted me to visit the charity and it was great to see the fantastic work they do to train the dogs, so they can provide company and security to people who cannot hear.

“Hopefully lots of Wycombe Wanderers fans can support the charity in the same way by pledging a few pounds each month to sponsor a dog. Sponsoring a puppy like Rose is the perfect gift for Valentine’s Day and will help the charity to continue to change deaf people’s lives for the better.”

As well as sponsoring a puppy, Wood has started volunteering at the training centre, in Wycombe Road, by walking trainee hearing dogs.
