A DECISION from the Government on High Speed 2 is expected tomorrow.

Transport Secretary Justine Greening looks set to announce if the £33bn scheme, which would cut through Buckinghamshire's countryside heartland, will get the go ahead.

Nothing has been confirmed so far on a time for the announcement but it could come after health questions in the House of Commons after 3.30pm tomorrow, Amersham and Chesham MP Cheryl Gillan's office said.

Former Transport Secretary Lord Adonis, writing in The Times today, accuses the Government of dithering over the proposal.

He announced the scheme on behalf of the Labour Government two years ago.

He wrote: “Her department (Justine Greening) is indicating it could be another two years before Parliament even votes on the proposition, which will be several years before a building contractor gets near the Chilterns.”

Better late than never, time to stop prevaricating and start building, this long overdue and much needed project is only about twenty years late starting, so nothing new there then?

Great news for Europe. Jobs for eastern European migrants and German rolling stock manufacturers.
.
Yet more money pouring out of the country.

Why not face the fact that eastern european migrants come here to work and that German rolling stock manufacturers produce better trains?

I don't sit in the 'for' camp or the 'against' camp. (I should be in my box by the time it is finished!) but I haven't seen any comments or discussion as to what the final cost will be. Most large projects in this country have never come in on budget, they normally cost twice as much as originally quoted. (look at the security budget for the Olympics as an example of costs spiralling up & up).

What I am saying is that there would be less economic benefit to the country than some are trying to make out.
.
I have heard many supporters say on the radio and TV that this will create lots of jobs in the UK during construction. I beg to differ and think that a lot of the work will go to firms outside the UK, or firms employing migrants who, although paying tax and spoending money in the UK, will send money "back home".
.
The country needs to be spending on creating wealth for the UK, not spending on creating wealth for other countries.
