Hands off our ticket offices!

Dear editor,

The ticket office staff at High Wycombe Station are a friendly, approachable and helpful team, who can never be replaced by machines.

When planning long-distance journeys, I have always found them ready to make well-informed suggestions to save me time and money.

The proposal that the ticket office staff should be roaming the platform, answering queries, selling tickets and assisting travellers with mobility issues is ludicrous.

Train travel will inevitably become more difficult and less appealing for foreign visitors, the elderly and the disabled.

Cost cutting will benefit the foreign companies that own our train operating companies and the shareholders, but it spells disaster for the rest of us.
