I advise Rex Pawley (letters, October 17) to visit the IPCC website to see how that body represents the considered views of scientists in its advice to governments.
Recent advice estimates a 95% chance that increasing incidence of extreme weather events is caused by man-made carbon emissions. Must that figure reach 100% before Mr Pawley accepts that action is needed?
In the first nine months of this year, I counted 261 reports of such events from worldwide coverage by Al Jazeera TV (channel 83).
Action can be taken now to put a brake on emissions. With advancing technology it should be possible to bring them down to zero within the lifetime of your youngest readers. – Eric Alexander, Dovecot Road, High Wycombe
