Rain didn't dampen spirits as Team GB take gold in the lightweight double sculls
2:21pm Saturday 4th August 2012 in Latest News
Team GB’s lightweight double sculls pair Sophie Hosking and Katherine Copeland continued their blistering Olympic form as they stormed to Gold on Lake Dorney.
The duo, who only teamed up earlier this season, breezed past World Champions Greece and China, and a clearly Wimbledon's Hosking said: “It’s no coincidence that we’ve all performed so well, we have a fantastic support system.
“Everybody is amazing here – we get clapped when we walk to the venue, and cheered when we compete. It’s doesn’t get any better than this.”
Hosking, who is a member of London Rowing Club on Putney Embankment, and Copeland became the third female team to win Gold in the Olympic regatta - beforehand no British woman had ever won Gold.
Greece pushed off quickly, opening up a slight advantage by the first quarter but by halfway the Team GB ladies had pushed their way into second and looked ominously powerful as their devastating sprint pushed them two seconds clear of their closest rivals China who just beat Greece to silver.
