A 10k race raised thousands of pounds for a Chilterns charity at the weekend.

Over 200 keen runners took part in the Prestwood 10k on Sunday morning, helping to raise £6,500 for the Chilterns MS Centre.

The centre, in Oak Wood Close, Aylesbury, provides treatment and therapy for over 400 people in the local community that have the degenerative condition Multiple Sclerosis (MS).

The 23rd annual race event, which started and ended at Sprinters Leisure Centre, took in the sights and sounds of Prestwood with a figure of eight course.

The men’s race was won by Paul Bucknall with a time of 36 minutes and 19 seconds. Karmen Pardoe was the first over the line in the women’s race, coming in at just under 41 minutes.

And for the first time, kids could get involved with a special children’s fun run alongside the main race.

Race organiser and Community Fundraiser from the MS Centre, Sharon Deacon said “There was a lovely family atmosphere at the event, our inaugural children’s fun run that ran alongside the adult’s race was a great success. We are so grateful for all the support we received locally and to all the runners.

“We are delighted with the money that was raised, which was far greater than our expectations. The funds will help so many people at the Centre that rely on us to make a real difference to their quality of life.”

The event was sponsored by the Mid-Counties Co-operative, Prestwood, who gave goody bags to the runners, ‘The Chilterns’ by Taylor Wimpey who sponsored the medals and trophies, Prestwood Motors and JNP Partnership.

The local branch of TSB helped with the children’s races.
