A violent teenage thug who repeatedly stabbed a man and attacked another with a glass bottle has been jailed.

Ruben Smith, 19, from Princes Risborough, was sentenced to 12 years in prison at Aylesbury Crown Court last week.

In December 2014, the New Road resident stabbed a 29-year-old man numerous times in the chest in broad daylight, leaving the victim with a collapsed lung and fractured shoulder blade.

In November the following year, Smith pleaded guilty to a separate brutal attack where he hit a man with a glass bottle and assaulted a woman and a 17-year-old boy.

The incident happened at an address in Longwick Road, Princes Risborough, in February last year.

Investigating officer, detective constable Andy Hall, said: “Smith committed two very serious GBH offences in Princes Risborough involving a number of victims who sustained severe injuries.

“I am pleased with the lengthy sentences that have been given to Smith and I hope that his time behind bars enables him to think about the consequences of his actions.

“Violence will not be tolerated in our community and this sentence demonstrates that we will bring those offenders who commit violent offences to justice.”

Smith was given an extended sentence of 16 years comprising of a custodial term of 12 years last Wednesday.

He will spend up to 54 months of the sentence at a young offender institution.

In connection with the stabbing in December 2014, Smith was convicted of one count of wounding with intent to do grievous bodily harm, one count of having a blade / sharply pointed object in a public place and one count of wounding / inflicting grievous bodily harm.

Following the second incident, Smith pleaded guilty to one count of wounding / inflicting grievous bodily harm, two counts of assault by beating, one count of assaulting a person thereby occasioning them actual bodily harm, and one count of having a blade / sharp pointed article in a public place.

For this second series of offences, Smith was sentenced to three years’ detention in a young offender’s institution for the GBH, four months’ detention in a young offender institution for each assault by beating, all to be served concurrently.
