Around 50 firefighters from across two counties tackled a blaze involving three thatched cottages in Whiteleaf today.

The cottages, in Upper Icknield Way, have suffered significant damage, with much of the roof being destroyed in the fire.

A crew from Princes Risborough, four from Aylesbury, two from High Wycombe, one from Marlow, one from Amersham, one from Gerrards Cross, one from Thame, one from Wheatley and one from Oxford were called to the scene at 9.43am this morning.

Firefighters used main jets, hose reels, ladders, hay drags and a turntable ladder to bring the fire under control and no one is believed to have been injured.

Relief crews are now on the scene and the incident commander praised the crews' hard work and thanked residents for "community spirit."

The cause of the fire has not yet been confirmed.
