GARETH Ainsworth says he doesn't want tomorrow to be all about him as he plays his 600th and final game.

It almost seems like destiny that Ainsworth marks the milestone on home soil against another club where he enjoys hero status, Port Vale.

And while he's looking for his players to sign off on a winning note, he wants it to be on their behalf rather than for his benefit in his last game after playing across three decades.

He said: "Myself is never bigger than the club. I want them to put a performance in for the club - for wearing that shirt on your back, that badge on your chest is more important than anything.

"If there's an extra little bit in there because it's my last game, so be it, but you never ask them to do it for you.

"They do it for Wycombe and they do it for each other and, more importantly, for the fans - for the people who would give their right arm for that shirt."

Despite that, it's likely to be the Gareth Ainsworth show tomorrow with Vale expecting to bring 4,000 fans to Adams Park to start a promotion party.

The Blues boss said: "It's Port Vale, it's at home, they've been promoted, we're safe, it's my 600th appearance - it seems set up that it's the right thing to do. I couldn't have asked for a better day.

"I don't want to be the player people say, 'He should have retired by now'. I wouldn't want that situation, I'd rather go out now knowing whenever I was on the pitch I gave my all, added to the squad and added to the team, and go out on a good note. Everything's set up perfectly.

"The managerial side is big for me. I want to be a successful manager, I believe I can manage at a higher level and putting everything into that is really important. I want to give the managerial career everything - not 99 per cent, 99.9 per cent, absolutely 100 per cent. That's why I've made this decision."

He added: "There will be a non contract basis next year like Lee Harrison but I anticipate not setting foot on the pitch next year."
