Blues boss proud as Dunne gets international call-up
CHARLES Dunne was given his first taste of international football this week after being called into the Ireland U21 squad.
A late call-up after injury drop-outs, the highly rated Dunne was an unused substitute as the young Irish side came from a goal down to beat the Faroe Islands 4-1 in a 2015 European Championship qualifier in Toftir.
It's quite a turnaround for a player who only three years ago was still playing park football before joining Wanderers, and Blues boss Gareth Ainsworth said his story should inspire his team mates.
He said: "To have an international player on the books is fantastic for the club and for Charles, more than anyone. He deserves it as he's worked really hard.
"He's not been given things with a silver spoon in football, he's had to work really hard for his career. He's put in the work and now he's reaping the rewards.
"He's got a lot to learn but I'm not surprised in the slightest Charles has been causing a stir at international level.
"You get your rewards in this game and Charles Dunne's a good example of that. It's inspirational for his peers."
