MATT McClure said Rochdale is becoming a bogey ground for Wanderers after they put in what he said was an unacceptable performance on Saturday.

Blues were beaten at Spotland for the third season in succession, meaning Dale have now won four of the last six encounters between the teams.

They never recovered from a slow start as Rochdale raced to 3-0 in front inside 15 minutes against a shellshocked Wanderers.

But McClure said defeat was maybe down to a mental block, with a 4-1 hammering on their last trip north in March still fresh in the memory.

He said: "Last year we came up here, started like a house on fire and still lost 4-1. Maybe it's a bogey ground, maybe it's in our heads - I don't know. It's unacceptable and we'll make sure we don't put in another performance like that again.

"It was a better second half but we are really disappointed in the way we started the game. You can't really take any positives from that. We have to put it right next week.

"We started slower than we normally do. They hit us on the counter attack with two of their goals and the other was a set piece.

"It was unacceptable and it won't happen again this season."

McClure scored his second goal of the campaign as he took out his frustrations at a lack of involvement by smashing home to make it 3-1.

Wanderers were eventually beaten 3-2 as the comeback failed to materialise and the 21-year-old said: "It's nice to score but I'd rather not score and win 1-0 than get beaten 3-2 and be on the scoresheet.

"It was the first time I managed to get a turn and face the goal. I had done a bit of work in training on Thursday on pinning the centre half, turning them and getting the shot in."
