BEACONSFIELD boss Gary Meakin has urged the home fans to get behind his players more as they aim to end a four-game losing sequence.

They were beaten 2-0 by Northwood last weekend but Meakin says even when things go well the crowd remains passive.

He said: “It’s like a morgue. We scored against Rugby the other week but you wouldn’t have known it.

“It was a Monday night but Rugby had more fans there than us.

“The players feel it, they notice. They joke about playing in front of one man and his dog.

“We need to get more people there and we need some more noise from them.”

Beaconsfield’s average gate this season of 83 is higher only than North Greenford United, while Kettering top the charts with an average home gate of 592.

Meanwhile, on the field, Meakin is unconcerned by a month-long winless streak.

He said: “This is the transitional period I feared when I took over, although I expected it to be the other way round.

“But we had a good start and won a few games. That adrenaline and euphoria is great, but you need something to fall back on and I think it is catching up with us now.

“From the outside it doesn’t look great, but we’re getting there. Week by week it’s getting closer to clicking and when it does we’ll be fine.

“The players we’ve brought in are good enough, but they’re just not fit enough or sharp enough.”

Saturday’s defeat to Northwood, insists Meakin, summed up their recent run.

He said: “They must have had three shots and scored twice, while we missed a penalty, had one cleared off the line and hit the bar.

“We’re creating the chances but they’re just not going in for us. It’s the story of our season.”

However, salvation could be at hand with a favourable run of games during November.

Bottom club Chertsey are first up on Saturday, before three further games against teams below them in the table surrounding a fixture against Kettering, who are just one place above them.

Meakin said: “We can’t keep saying it’s going to change forever, but we’ve got quite a kind November.”
