BEACONSFIELD will have to silence a crowd fit for Conference Football when they go to Kettering on Saturday.

Their Southern League Central hosts average 592 at Latimer Park this season with a top crowd of 789.

In contrast, Beaconsfield’s average gate is just 84 and manager Gary Meakin says if they hit the back of the net tomorrow it will be just like scoring at home.

He said: “We won’t hear a pin drop if we score again – but we’re used to that by now.”

But despite the huge backing, Kettering have lost three of their seven home league fixtures and Beaconsfield go there one point better off in the table after their 3-1 victory over Aylesbury last weekend.

An own goal after two minutes put the Rams on the back foot, but goals from Zak Joseph, Nathan Poulton and Wayne O’Sullivan turned the game around.

Meakin said: “We gave ourselves a hill to climb, which is typical of us, but after that I felt we were comfortable.

“It was still in the balance at 2-1 but once we got a third you could see the confidence come back and everyone started to relax and play.”

However, Meakin believes that despite the victory, the game was a chance missed to send a real statement to the league.

He said: “We scored three goals but it should have been seven or eight.

“That’s not being disrespectful to Aylesbury, but they weren’t half-chances.”

Koffi Lockhart-Adams squandered the best of them when he twice sent the ball ballooning over the bar and into the car park when faced with an open goal – “He’s a centre forward, the one I signed to score goals,” said Meakin – but he wasn’t the only guilty party.

Meakin said: “We got three goals but we went away a little disappointed we didn’t send a message to everyone saying, ‘we’re coming’.

“But we should kick on from here. At the moment we’re just trying build momentum but we want to go into the last six or eight games no worse than six or eight points outside the play-offs.

“Then you’re playing cup finals and you’ve got a chance.”
