THE man who spent six years coaching Bath has this week been trying to mastermind their downfall.

Brad Davis joined Wasps as defence coach in the summer after leaving The Rec earlier in the year, so he is well-placed to know what the black and golds will come up against at Adams Park on Sunday.

He said: “In my opinion they’re in the top three squads in the competition in terms of depth. They’ve got at least three quality players in every position.

“They’ve squeezed every penny out of the salary cap, I’m sure, and if you go through their side they’ve got 25-30 internationals past or present.”

Davis admits that makes it difficult trying to devise a plan to end a six-match winning sequence that helped take Bath up to third in the Aviva Premiership table.

He said: “They’re a difficult side to identify. They can rotate week in, week out and select a different 15 every week. They are a high quality outfit and we’re going to have to be at our best to come away with four points.”

Traditionally, Bath have always had big games in them but this year they have added consistency to their repertoire and one reason for that could be their development up front.

Like Wasps, they have made significant strides in that department this season and with a deadly back three to boot, it’s hard to know what conditions might favour the home team.

Davis said: “There will be challenges across the board, but an area they’ve definitely improved on in the last 12 months has been the set piece.

“They’ve got a dominant pack and put the squeeze on sides, and now they’ve got a ten in there who puts them in the right field positions.

“They’ve had four games that have been absolutely torrential and come away with maximum points in all those games. They’re probably the best wet weather team in the competition.

“But saying that, in dry weather they’ve got the strike power out wide and defensively they’ve been strong. They’re pretty much the complete article.”

“But we’ve got a game that we think we can put out on the park and get the result. It’s about us being in the right place mentally, fronting up where we need to and backing ourselves.

“If we do that we’ll be ok.”
