IT'S back to where it all began for Wanderers boss Gareth Ainsworth tomorrow as he returns to the scene of his first match in charge of the club.

The 40-year-old was handed the reins in the wake of Gary Waddock's sacking last year and days later took a Wanderers side in disarray to Dagenham and Redbridge.

A 3-0 defeat resulted but it wasn't enough to put Ainsworth off wanting to become manager on a full time basis.

He said: "I remember texting my brother and saying, 'That didn't go to plan'. I realised there was a lot more work than just taking over the team and picking a XI.

"It was a baptism of fire but I really enjoyed it even though we got beaten 3-0 - being on the touchline and calling the shots. A year on I've still got the enthusiasm, still got the passion for it.

"It's a totally different game. They have got a new manager, we've got a lot of new faces so it'll be an interesting one. But there will always be that remembrance of me going there, first game in charge after a couple of days' training and losing 3-0. I'm hoping nothing like that happens again and we can take the game and win it."

The Daggers sit ninth in the table despite winning just one of their last four matches and Ainsworth said: "They've had a good season. Wayne Burnett's come in and changed a lot of the ethos of what they were doing under [previous manager] John Still, which was going to take time. He seems to be playing good football."
