Tattersall targets ten-point Christmas bonus
BEACONSFIELD RUFC will lick their wounds and go again tomorrow after a couple of heavy-duty collisions with the top two sides in London 2 North West.
Successive trips to Old Priorians and Twickenham have earned them nothing but bruises and frustration but head coach Simon Tattersall believes their 20-6 and 20-12 losses offer some encouragement.
He said: “It’s been a tough month. Four games out of five away from home is never easy especially with the injury list we’ve got.
“We used almost 40 players this season but the guys who have stepped up have really put pressure on the first team players and we’ve been competitive in every game.
“I thought that winning both games back to back would be a huge challenge, but we were hoping for a minimum of a losing bonus point and we fell slightly short.
“We had a crazy five minutes either side of half time against Old Priorians and were 20-3 down after 30 minutes against Twickenham.
“At that point it wasn’t looking so good but once we got our discipline back we did well and they really started to creak under pressure.”
Paul Trendell kicked them back into the game with four penalties, and at 20-12 behind with 15 minutes left they put Twickenham under all sorts of pressure with a driving line-out that took them over the line.
They were held up however, and a chance to upset the applecart was lost.
Tattersall said: “We’ve gone away to the top two sides in the league and top spot looks a long way off now.
“But they’ve got to play each other this weekend and they’ve both still got to come here.
“We felt we should have got something out of the two games, but we can either sit and sulk or go again.
“We’ve got two games before Christmas and realistically we need to get ten points from them.”
They host London Nigerian on Saturday.
