Gaz undecided on Christmas Day training
WANDERERS manager Gareth Ainsworth is undecided whether or not to bring his players in for training on Christmas Day.
With a game against Newport County to prepare for the following day, December 25 is often viewed as just another working day for professional footballers.
But the Blues boss has hinted an extra day off may be coming his players' way if they get a good run of form going during four games in the space of ten days over Christmas and New Year.
He said: "They have had a provisional schedule that gives them one day off in the next 18 days. It is hard but it's been like that in football since I can remember.
"If results go the right way maybe they could earn a couple of extra days in bed, but we have to be professional. Christmas is June and July for footballers and they all know that. I don't think anyone would say, 'I don't want to come in', they want to work.
"We have to come in and assess the squad more than anything. I'll have players who haven't been playing in the team who can't just come in having not trained. I'll be in and decide which players have to come in and train with me. Myself, Lee and Dobbo will be permanent fixtures here."
Asked about the players' dietary requirements over the festive period, Ainsworth joked: "I'll be telling the boys to curb the extra mince pie auntie or gran is trying to stuff down their neck.
"I remember being very stringent on Christmas Day, to the point of not having a pudding and drinking water all day and just having carbs. Hopefully the lads will be taking a leaf out of that book and saving the chocolates until when we have a couple of weeks free."
