Joe Simpson flies over for his match-winning score

ANDY Goode stole the headlines with his late kick, but half back parter Joe Simpson took the top plaudits as he was named Man of the Match on his return to the side.

He scored Wasps’ only try with a typically sharp finish from 30m and then robbed Exeter of a match-winning score themselves when he raced back to hold Henry Slade up over the line.

Director of rugby Dai Young said: “It was real determination from Joe to get back and keep us in the game. If that was a try that would have been it for us.

“He also scored a good try himself. We all know how sharp he is off the base of the scrum and if you give him that space he’s going to capitalise.

“I thought his kicking game was excellent as well and kept us in the right areas of the field.”

Simpson has faced a battle with Charlie Davies for the number nine shirt this season and has had to sit out the last few matches.
